The Center for Addiction Studies and Research (CASR) is a nationally and internationally recognized provider of addiction certification and related behavioral health training through flexible, self-paced distance learning programs and live classroom instruction. We offer coursework for individuals seeking certification, recertification, or continuing education in addiction counseling, gambling counseling, prevention, and peer support, as well as continuing education (CE) for social worker. Our courses are designed for professionals working in a wide range of behavioral health roles across the U.S. and Canada.
Our distance learning courses for addiction and related behavioral health certification are approved and accepted by a variety of national and state-level organizations. We are a NAADAC Approved Education Provider (#99236), and recognized by several International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) member board states. In certain states, we also hold direct approval through individual addiction counselor certification boards.
Our gambling counseling coursework is approved by the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Board (IPGGC), formerly the IGCCB. Social work continuing education is approved through the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.
A Foundation in Academic Studies and Treatment Experience
The Center for Addiction Studies and Research was founded by Howard Fogel, Ph.D., CASAC, who currently serves as the Educational Director of the program. Dr. Fogel received his doctorate in Educational Psychology from the City University of New York and his Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) certification from the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). He has taught psychology and addiction-related courses for over twenty-five years at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and is currently a certified Education and Training Provider for the NYS OASAS Workforce Development Training Unit.
Our curriculum is developed with a strong foundation in both academic research and practical treatment experience. Course materials were created in consultation with credentialing specialists to ensure compliance, relevance, and application to real-world clinical settings.
