Understanding Utah SUDC Counseling Certifications
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) requires university-based classroom instruction for initial SUDC certifications. As a NAADAC/IC&RC approved distance learning provider, our coursework can be used to fulfill Utah SUDC continuing education requirements only.
Pursuant to the Utah DOPL Substance Use Disorder Licensing Act Rule, distance learning directly related to practice as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) may be recognized for SUDC continuing education requirements (Substance Use Disorder Licensing Act Rules, R156060d-304 3(a)(vi)(vii)).

Utah SUDC Substance Abuse Certification Continuing Education Courses
To maintain a Utah SUDC or Advanced SUDC certification, counselors are required to complete:
- 40 hours of approved continuing education every two years including:
- 6 hours of Professional Ethics and Responsibilities
- 2 hours of Suicide Prevention
- A maximum of 15 of the 40 hours may be earned through approved distance learning education. The remaining 25 hours must be completed through live instruction.
