This course offers a conceptual framework for working with diverse cultural groups in a substance abuse treatment setting. Population-specific discussions of treatment for Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans and American Indian/Alaska Natives are included. Topics covered include general principles for delivering culturally competent treatment services, health and social consequences of drug use, help seeking behaviors and access to care issues, barriers to treatment, and adapting approaches to meet the treatment needs of clients from culturally diverse backgrounds.
