The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is a Colorado Providers Association accepted distance learning provider of prevention education.
Education Requirements and Courses
Colorado Certified Prevention Specialist (CCPS)
Documentation of 120 hours of prevention specific education across all domains including:
- 24 hours must be ATOD-specific
- 6 hours must be specific to Prevention Ethics
- 31 hours must be new Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST)- SAPST trainings as of October 2012
There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through distance learning trainings.

This course includes 24 hours of ATOD specific education, and 6 hours of prevention ethics. Please note, this course does not cover the 31-hour SAPST requirement.

- Domain 1 – Planning and Evaluation (15 hours)
- Domain 2 – Prevention Education and Service Delivery (15 hours)
- Domain 3 – Communication (15 hours)
- Domain 4 – Community Organization (15 hours)
- Domain 5 – Public Policy and Environmental Change (15 hours)
- Domain 6 – Professional Growth and Responsibility (15 hours – includes 6 hours of prevention ethics)

Documentation of 40 hours of continuing education in prevention-specific trainings and 3 hours in professional ethics and responsibilities.
A maximum number of 12 hours for each domain for renewals will be accepted, with the exception of Professional Development which will be capped at 4 hours.
