Understanding Kansas SUD Counseling Certifications
Please note that at this time, continuing education programs for addiction counselors are not automatically pre-approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB). However, pursuant to the BSRB guidelines, trainings that are “clearly related to the enhancement of addiction counseling practice, values, skills and knowledge” should be acceptable for continuing education credits.
Please contact the Kansas BSRB for programs that can be used to satisfy the initial certification/licensure requirements.
Kansas Substance Abuse Certification Continuing Education Courses
To maintain a Kansas Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC) or Licensed Masters Addiction Counselor (LMAC) certification, counselors are required to complete:
- 30 hours of continuing education every two years including:
- 3 hours must be related to ethics
- 6 hours must be related to the diagnosis and treatment of substance use and mental health disorders
