The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is a Prevention Specialist Certification Board of Washington accepted distance-learning provider of prevention education.
Education Requirements and Courses
Associate Prevention Professional (APP)
The APP is not eligible for reciprocity with IC&RC. The APP certificate is issued for a two-year period and can be renewed for one additional two-year period
Documentation of 70 hours of prevention education covering:
- Drug Education, Harm Reduction Education and/or Substance Use Prevention
- General Prevention Education
There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through distance learning trainings.
35 hours may be earned within the last 10 years, and a minimum of 35 hours earned within the last two (2) years.

60 of the required 120 education hours may be earned within the last ten years. A minimum of 60 hours must be earned within the last three years.
